Black Powder Anti-Material Rifle
3 Attachment(s)
Heres an idea whose time has come.
These are from left to right a 661 grain round for a .50 cal Barrett and some 555 grain bullets for a .50 cal muzzle loader. Below these are some saboted .50 cal bullets. My thoughts are that the technology is present to approximate the devastating performance of the modern anti-material rife using a muzzle loader. Now I don't expect to equal the long range accuracy but at say half the distance maybe 600 yards I could equal the devastation. I would love to have the anti-material rifle in the arsenal but at 2,000 plus frns it won't happen. There a lot of fine black powder rifles for 500 frns. Mainly I'm trying to find one that has a chamber and barrel that can withstand a large charge of powder. |
Re: Black Powder Anti-Material Rifle
That very thing has been crossing my mind lately also....
Not to mention the fact that they are cash n carry or ship to your home--NO FFL REQUIRED. :565::565::565: |
Re: Black Powder Anti-Material Rifle
Verrry interesting concept! How does one do the engineering/math to determine the amount of chamber pressure generated to meet the ft/lb equivalent to a .50 BMG and design a chamber that could handle that?
Great thread! |
Re: Black Powder Anti-Material Rifle
Well I looked at the chamber pressure and velocity foot pound ect. of the barrett some time ago and don't have the info handy.
I guess I'll look at what it would take to drive lead down range at an acceptable rate. I was hoping somone would say "oh yeah such and such makes a rife that would do that". I have shot small cannons in the past. |
Re: Black Powder Anti-Material Rifle
The number I remember seeing for the 50 BMG is 12000 ft-lbs.
The velocity is about what you see for a.308, 2800 fps. For a cheaper solution for anti material rifle load AP bullets into 308 or 5.56 AP bullets into 308 sabots. I read an article about different AP loads and I remember it said drill rod works great, put that into a sabot. |

How about a 44 cal revolver without FFL ? Also, there are more than a few 36 cal pocket revolvers out there too ... |
Re: Black Powder Anti-Material Rifle
Ha! I thought anti material was only on my mind! Good show!
